LESSON 2: CHAINING

Before we can get into Spell, Trap, and Monster effects, it would be best if i talked about how they would react to each other if they ever "Chained." Chains occur when card effects of the same or greater "Spell Speed" activate in sequence, forming a "Chain Link."
A Chain Link is a point within a Chain. Every new effect activted within a Chain adds a new Chain Link, each effect having a higher Chain Link number than the last. Each Chain Link is an individual card effect, and the Chain ends with the effect with the highest number(the last effect activated) going off first, and than the effect that activated before that effect engages and than the one before that. Spell Speed decides if it can actually join the Chain and where it is placed in the link.
Spell Speed 1- The lowest speed, the cards that possess this Spell Speed are Normal Spell Cards, Continuous Spell Cards, Field Spell Cards, Equip Spell Cards, Ritual Spell Cards, Flip Effect Monster Cards, Monster Cards with Ignition and Trigger Effects, and Spell Cards with Ignition and Trigger Effects. Spell Speed 1 cards cannot chain with other Spell Speed 1 or higher cards(it has to be chained with a card of higher speed that activated after it did) and cannot be Chain Link 2 or higher unless activated at the same time(simultaneously) or through another effect.
Spell Speed 2- The speed that chains with cards that possess both Spell Speed 1 and 2, but cannot chain with a card with Spell Speed 3. The cards that have this speed are Quick-Play Spell Cards, Normal Trap cards, Continuous Trap Cards, Quick-Like Effect Trap Cards, and Quick Effect Monster Cards.
Spell Speed 3- The highest speed, this speed can respond to the lower speeds but the lower speeds cannot respond to Spell Speed 3, only another speed 3 can chain after it. The ONLY type of card that has this speed is the Counter Trap Card.

You know in all the years I've played this game its not until a few weeks ago that I understood chaining and spell speeds. Here at least I get a constant reminder of how they work. Thanks for the lessons prof.
