Lesson # 2 Types of Summons Part One

Post by L on Mon Jan 26, 2015 10:02 am

Good evening my students. This chapter in your journey into the game of duel monsters you will learn the different types of summons within the card game.

First off you have the normal summon. Each player is permitted one normal summon per turn. This can be changed by using cards that allow you to normal summon one extra monster. The common mistake new duelist will encounter in the game especially those who watched the anime series would be summoning cards in face up defense mode. You must always set cards you want to play in defense mode.

Next We have the Tribute summon. Another common mistake new duelist will encounter is being able to summon level 5 or higher star'd monsters without a sacrifice. Below will be the requirements for the tribute summons.

5-6 stars you must tribute 1 monster to summon it.

7-9 stars you must sacrifice 2 monsters to summon it.

10 and higher you must sacrifice 3 monsters to summon it.

And then we have the beloved Ritual summon. Common cards associated with this summon type are Black Luster Soldier, Magician of Black Chaos, And Relinquished. Each Ritual monster is given a designated ritual spell card. In order to dabble in these black arts you must send monster cards in your hand and/ or on the field to unlock these cards and allow them to take to the field. Keep in mind that you must send monster cards who's total levels equal or surpass the ritual monsters. Example is as follows;

You have Relinquished in hand along with black illusion ritual. Relinquished is a level 1 Ritual monster. So you must play black illusion ritual then tribute a monster that is level 1 or high to summon Relinquished to the field.

And Last but most certainly not least you have the Classic Fusion summon. There are many ways to do this now days but we are going to stick to the basics. The most iconic cards ever to grace the playing field have been fusions such as; Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Elemental HERO Flame Wingman, Cyber End Dragon, and Dragon Master Knight. This summon can be done by using the card Polymerization and sending the fusion materials listed on the fusion card from the field or the hand to the graveyard. Example is as follows;

You have Polymerization and one Blue-Eye's White Dragon on the field and two in your hand. You would then activate Polymerization  and send all three Blue-Eyes to the graveyard to bring out Blue-Eye's Ultimate Dragon.

That concludes my lesson for Now. Next Lesson will be about Xyz, Synchro, and Pendulum summoning. Let me know down in the replies If this helped you in anyway. Later Guys ^^.

Level seven monsters and above only require 2 tributes unless the card specifically states otherwise, for example, Slifer the Sky Dragon, Apoqliphort Towers, Beast King Barbaros, and The Wicked Dreadroot all require 3 tributes to be tribute summoned, as opposed to cards like Yubel and Ultimate Obedient Fiend, who require only two tributes to be tribute summoned.

You can Normal Summon/Set this card without Tributing, but its original ATK becomes 1900. You can Tribute 3 monsters to Tribute Summon this card. If you do: Destroy all cards your opponent controls.

Barbaros needs 3 tributes to get the effect that destroys all cards that the opponent controls 'dude'. You don't have to but the option is there.

Thats just it though too many players out there think lv 10 and above need 3 tributes and think themselves right. Point is when giving lessons make sure they learn properly.

Well heres my point Yugioh seems to have dropped anything having to do with tributing monsters with special summoning. When you go into a game you will see more people special summoning than anything. But on a serious note the only cards that people will tribute for thats level 9-12 is the egyptian gods
